With over 80,000 people running/jogging/walking the City2Surf, it is definitely an experience to remember. This year was the first year that the team at mendr participated, and it was also my first year walking that 14km from the city up to Bondi. To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect and I definitely wasn’t sure what 80,000 people would look like.
It was an amazing view down William Street, all you could see was a sea of people, all there to help raise money and awareness for the causes that they care for.
Looking down William Street
For those of you that have never done the City2Surf, I think it is definitely a bucket list item that you need to tick off. Everyone makes sure that you have a fantastic time. People are there supporting those who participate with loud cheering and music. This year there were a few young men playing the bagpipes, a band made up of police men and women singing and a few cheer squads encouraging you to keep going.
Richard, our CTO and chief motivator for the mendr lunchtime running group finished the City2Surf in an amazing 88 minutes. Nikki, Em, Elaine, and Cathy finished up in just over 2 hours, and Glen, Bella, William and I finished up in just under 3 hours.
We wrapped up the day with a BBQ and a few well-deserved drinks.
Look out for team mendr next year at the City2Surf we will be running again and raising more money for charities.
